About the Original

In Mission Mermaiden , Hasumi is sent on a secret mission in the year 2101 to investigate the appearance of strange life forms. In this platformer, the heroine must confront enemies in battle to thwart the plans of the Deep See Sisters. Her opponents try to manipulate the body and mind to their advantage with hypnosis, experimental substances and technical devices.

About the Modification

Once again Hasumi tries to fight the deep sea sisters, but will she emerge victorious this time as well? Her opponents seem to be more cunning and are determined to corrupt Hasumi. This time it will not be so easy to resist the temptations of her adversaries.

In essence, the mod improves the original with:

  1. Challenging teractions - The enemies represent a real challenge and statuses have a noticeable consequences.
  2. Gameplay feedback - The players decisions have an impact with rewards and penalties.
  3. Visible content - Good content that was rarely seen is now more visible.

Overview of changes

Gameplay: Movement and camera have been modernized to allow for good platforming gameplay.  Overall, the battle system has been simplified to encourage exciting fights. The Health system has been replaced with a Willpower system, so that together with the Pleasure and Corruption meter, an interesting resource management is created. The escape system has been completely reworked to present the player with tricky decisions.

Enemies: All 12 enemies and six boss fights have been reworked so that each enemy is a real threat. For this, the enemies' AI, movement patterns, attack and defense abilities have been improved.

Bad states: The 15 already existing states have been completely reworked and expanded by two more. The origin and effect of the conditions are better understood and much harder to undo, so they have a noticeable and lasting impact on the gameplay.

Items and equipment: In the course of the game, these items become more and more important. Resource management plays a major role, since the equipment has a strong influence on the gameplay.

Misc: Bad endings revised, HUD adjusted, bugs fixed and much more...

    • Yes, I have made sure that the necessary tutorials are understandable for beginners.

    • I would like to work on a standalone translation and randomizer. I will also update the project with bug fixes.

so could someone explain to me in a bit more detail about how to correctly install the mod? I'm kind of confused on what I'm doing to install in.

The first boss seems to have softlocked me, i got hit by 4 slugs then it came up from below, i cant struggle or anything, wont even finish

Oh my gosh! Mission Mermaiden has to be one of my favorite H-Games and as much as I've enjoyed it, there was always so much I wished I could tweak about it. This mod fixes almost every aspect I thought was lacking in the original!

The enemies are now actually a challenge to fight through in some genuinely clever ways. Changing behaviors and effects instead of just giving them health or damage.

Speaking of health, the new Willpower mechanic tying together health, stamina, and corruption is such an clever design choice that improves immensely on the difficulty of the game.

The struggle mechanic is now quite hard and plays off the Willpower mechanic so well. Needing to more careful about spamming attacks so that you don't get caught with low willpower and limiting willpower based on corruption and how aroused the player is making for a very fun challenge.

Overall, this is such a wonderful piece of work that I'll be enjoying for many playthroughs to come and will definitely be inspiring my own game development attempts as I learn to do more than just draw assets...

Thanks a million NoGag! :D

any hits on how to keep the struggle/resist?

the old post in this section about it doesn't help me visualize when and which button to push.

is there a solution of not being able to escape enemies bug yet?

I can't seem to escape enemies at all. No matter how much I press the struggle button or press left and right, nothing happens.

My main gripe with this mod is that the new struggle system seems to assume you're using a keyboard. It's next to impossible to get the meter to react with a D-pad or analog stick, so at first I thought it was broken.

Once I figured that out the game was much more manageable, but I hope the creator keeps controller users in mind in the future.

And the difficulty is too very hard

I would appreciate it if you could at least change it so that I can go to return to base mid-game.

(1 edit)

When I go to the magnet boss in the middle of stage 2, the character does not move

is it a bug? Or what trick? please tell me the solution

Pushing left and right to struggle does not work, and actually makes the resist bar go the wrong direction when in trace.

(1 edit) (+2)(-1)

You must only push the struggle buttons when the bar is green. If it's pink, don't touch. There is a short grace period after the green turns to pink, but not very long.

Ah, thank you. A pretty basic oversight on my part. I hadn't noticed that the bar now has inertia and required some faster presses to work.
